Emilie Merritt is a senior Vocal Performance major at the University of Texas at El Paso. An avid performer of opera, her past role credits include Papagena in The Magic Flute, Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge, and La Zelatrice in Suor Angelica with Opera UTEP, and as the widow Catherine in Pippin with the regionally-renowned UTEP Dinner Theatre. Of her role in Pippin, Jak Klinikowski, El Paso Times theatre critic, said “She has a beautiful, almost lilting soprano voice and great stage carriage. She’s a real asset to the second act.” She has also performed in numerous scenes with Opera UTEP and has furthered her education at the Taos Opera Institute (2019) and the ASU Winter Vocal Academy (2018). She found her love of opera at an early age from attending El Paso Opera rehearsals with her mother and plans to expand on her childhood dream of musical dress-up.
